Healthy Diet for Diabetic Patients

 A healthy diet for diabetic patients is important to help control their blood sugar levels, keep them at a healthy weight, and reduce the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease. Here are some healthy diet tips for diabetic patients:


  • Every day, eat five to six small, frequent meals for health. Each meal should contain, high fiber starchy foods, food containing protein and some fat.
  • Include in your healthy diet, high fiber starchy food, whole-wheat chapatti, rice or khichri whole-wheat bread, etc.
  • Vegetables (except potatoes) and fruit provide starch, fiber & natural sugars, include them in each meal for health.
  • Protein is found in lentils (dal) including dals and beans, fish, chicken, meat and eggs. Use fish twice a week. (but not fried).
  • Use less oil and fat and avoid fried foods, use the grill steam or oven to bake.
  • Try skimmed and low-fat cheeses.
  • Avoid ras malai, sweets and bakery items.
  • Try to reduce the amount of salt you use - little in cooking but none at the table.
  • Olive oil is best for salad dressing and for the preparation of sandwiches for health. 
  • If you drink, try to limit your intake for health.
  • Have a glass of lassi or cup of yogurt and a piece of fruit to complete your healthy meal.
  • Replace normal tea, sodas, and juices with green tea between meals for health.

If you need to lose weight, you may also need to reduce your intake of fatty foods, for example, by cutting down on the pastry, fried foods, crispies, and nuts, and by switching to low-fat cheese and milk.
